Trick or Treat Halloween Door Card

To learn how to create this unique halloween door card, keep reading for generalized directions below.

Overall, this card was so much fun to make. It combines a lot of different techniques to create the optical illusion of the outside of the house and the inside of the living room.

Halloween Door Card Base:

First, you should decide what color base you want to use to create your card. I chose balmy blue mostly because I think white cards can get boring. Keep in mind that whatever color you choose will be the color of the inside carpet and back of the front card flap, unless you choose to cover those.

Halloween Door Card Front/Outside of the House:

Next, the tiles were embossed (mosaic 3D) on whisper white cardstock, and the bricks were embossed (bricks) on early espresso cardstock. Both were then brushed with inked daubers (mossy meadow and merry merlot, respectively) to create the color effect. I used this technique previously on this project.

The duck and monster were both stamped in black ink, hand cut and colored with various markers (most of which are linked below). The halloween door was created with a retired Stampin’ Up! bundle (At Home with You). I think the opening door just adds a fun twist and some personality to the card.

Getting the spider to stick to the door was actually the hardest part of creating the card. It was heavy and I couldn’t really hang it as I wanted it to look like a door knocker. After trying several different adhesives (dots, liquid, etc.), super glue held the best. I think hot glue would work as well, however, I didn’t have any immediately available to test.

Figure Positioning:

The monster on the inside was positioned intentionally so it looks like he is about to step out the door when you open the flap.

Card Inside/Monster Living Room:

The inside of the card just kept developing. I kept thinking of more things that might be in a monster’s living room. I definitely could have kept going, however, I didn’t want to make it too crazy (ok more crazy and complicated than it already is).

The staircase is from a retired Stampin’ Up! Christmas bundle (Ready for Christmas) that I shaded some of the markings to add dimension. The vampire and mummy pictures were stamped and cut out using the Spooktacular Bash bundle.

Happy crafting!
